Florence Onetta Jackson Johnson was born on December 15, 1938 to Lessie Pittman and O.C. Jackson in Sandyhook, MS. She lived as a child for some time with the late Joanna Pittman-Williams, “Grandma Joannie”. She met and married the late Thomas James Johnson in Newark, New Jersey. To this union was born her only beloved son Thomas Arnold Johnson. Florence worked as a caregiver and cashier in Manhattan, New York for 10 years. She moved back to Gulfport, MS, to assist her mother in the care of her
grandmother. She later became the caregiver for her ailing mother for several years.

She was a devoted Christian and servant to God. She was a long-time member of Maranatha 7th-day Adventist Church in Gulfport, where she served as Community Services Director. She distributed clothes and food to the needy. She also started a letter-writing ministry where she encouraged individuals in their walk with the Lord. She participated in Vacation Bible School where she would make many trips in her own car to bring the neighborhood children to the church for the programs. While living in
Saraland she would cook food for everyone who was in need of a hot meal. She also supported the church financially with tithe and offering. She loved to serve and support the North Gulfport and the surrounding areas.

She loved all of her family especially her grandchildren, her niece Courtney and her aunt Arleaner, with whom she had weekly outings.

Florence departed this life on May 13, 2018, but her essence will live on through her son; grandchildren; great grandchildren; and those whom she inspired. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas James Johnson; and her brother, James W Jackson. She leaves to cherish her memory; her son, Thomas (Wanda) Arnold Johnson; her grandsons, Cory Fredrick (whom she said was more like a son); James Vernon Johnson, Thomas Fredrick and Lance Fredrick all of Gulfport, MS; two granddaughters, Keiara Johnson of Gulfport, MS and Charlene Fyall of New York; 22 great grandchildren; one brother, Richard D Jackson of Dallas, TX; four sisters, Jimmy Lue Polite of Dallas, TX, Betty Range of Long Branch, NJ, Pearlie (Carl) Richardson of Gulfport, MS, and Cassandra (Edward) Simmons of Fort Lauderdale, FL; along with 15 nieces, including her namesake Kerri Onetta Flowers; 11 nephews; and a host of relatives, friends, and her special friends, Barbara Jones, and Dorothy Kelly.
